ARC Phoenix Recognizes National Diabetes Awareness Month
Did you know that Diabetic Retinopathy is the leading cause of preventable blindness in adults ages 20 to 74 within the United States? In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Associated Retina Consultants is raising awareness for retinal disease and encouraging those with Diabetes to receive a dilated eye exam to detect and prevent the progression of retinal conditions.
Diabetic eye disease remains one of the most common reasons patients seek retinal care from the group of retinal specialists at ARC. The ARC team is committed to lowering this number by providing the best possible care to all patients and encouraging early detection through dilated eye exams.
Patients who suffer from Diabetes are highly recommended to receive this retinal exam on a yearly basis, as these tests are an early indicator of vision complications due to retinal disease. Diabetic Retinopathy, Diabetic Macular Edema, and other eye diseases including Cataracts and Glaucoma can all be detected early on.
Diabetics are also recommended to take preventative measures to lower their risk for retinal diseases like Diabetic Retinopathy. It is highly encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, no smoking, limited alcohol intake, following a prescribed diet, and monitoring blood glucose and blood pressure levels.
