Located at the back of the eye, the retina is a thin, light-sensitive tissue that is responsible for controlling how you see images. In an ideal eye, light hits either the rods or cones of the retina and is converted into electrical impulses. Those electrical impulses are transmitted through the optic nerve to the brain to translate into images. Any damage to the retina will result in vision problems ranging from blurriness and spots to decreased central vision, even blindness.
A comprehensive, dilated eye exam will help our doctors diagnose the issue and recommend treatment options. Treatment will depend on which part of the retina is affected, how severe the issue is and what is causing the problem. Click here to read more about retina health.
