Elahhe Afkhamnejad, M.D.
Elahhe Afkhamnejad, known to her patients as ‘Dr. A’, is originally from Los Angeles, California. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Cognitive Science from Occidental College, attended Wake Forest School of Medicine in North Carolina, and completed her residency training at the University of Texas Medical Branch. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading novels and visiting butterfly gardens. She is looking forward to exploring all the Phoenix has to offer while learning how to medically and surgically care for patients with retinal problems.

Brennan M. Boyd, MD
Brennan M. Boyd, MD is a physician, ophthalmologist, and aspiring retina specialist. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Arizona. He then received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arizona, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and graduated with Distinction in Research. He completed Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Louisville where he obtained a high volume clinical and surgical experience. Dr. Boyd is excited to return to Arizona for subspecialty fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery.

Dr. Boyd has authored multiple peer-reviewed scientific publications in the field of Ophthalmology, primarily focused on the treatment of macular degeneration and screening for refractive surgery. His professional interests include advanced surgical techniques such as secondary IOLs and macular surgery, gene therapy, treatment of diabetic retinopathy, and medical innovation. He married his beautiful wife and closest friend, Adriana, and they have an adorable and energetic little girl, Miriam. In his free time, Dr. Boyd enjoys exercising, reading, watching basketball, trying hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.
Scott J. Sonne, M.D.

Scott J. Sonne, M.D, is a retina fellow with a passion for advancing patient care through cutting-edge research and surgical excellence. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he earned his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, graduating magna cum laude. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Saint Louis University, where he served as Chief Academic Resident.
Dr. Sonne has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications, with research focusing on various topics in retina including intraocular lymphoma, retinal toxicity, early to intermediate age-related macular degeneration, and pathologic myopia. His clinical interests include vitreoretinal surgery, optimizing vision outcomes, and delivering exceptional patient care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Sonne values time with his wife, Christianne, and their two children, Charlotte and Carson. He enjoys staying active through running, weightlifting, hiking, tennis, golf, water skiing, and snowboarding. A lifelong learner, he also has a passion for reading and exploring new topics. He is excited to expand his clinical and surgical expertise at Associated Retina Consultants.
