Dr. Patel moved to the United States from India at the age of 12. He pursued a 6-year BA/MD program directly after high school in Kansas City, where he earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees.
During his time in Kansas City, he was actively involved with the Kansas City Free Eye Clinic, dedicating six years to the organization and serving as the fundraising chair and clinic director. His efforts helped raise funds to provide free eye exams for the homeless. Dr. Patel is passionate about giving back and hopes to join a nonprofit organization in the future, traveling internationally to provide medical care to underserved communities.
Due to his efforts during medical school Dr. Patel was inducted into the prestigious Gold Humanism Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society prior to his graduation.
He went on to finish his internship in Indianapolis before completing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama where he discovered his passion for vitreoretinal surgery.
With a long-held desire to live out west and his avid love for hiking, Dr. Patel was thrilled to move to Arizona to complete his final years of medical training by doing a fellowship in Medical and Surgical Retina with the Associated Retina Consultants. After his fellowship he was offered a position to join the group and has been with the practice since 2020.
When he is not at work, Dr. Patel enjoys hiking, traveling, photography, cooking, and spending time with his family.
